Petaluma’s Steven Cozza improved steadily as the Amgen Tour of California rolled through the state, finishing 64th out of 113 finishers in the gruelling eight-day race.
Cozza, 21, won the third sprint in the race’s final stage Sunday in Long Beach. He was 10th among young riders in the event.
He finished 10 minutes and 36 seconds overall behind Levi Leipheimer’s winning time of 24:57.24.
Cozza was riding as a member of Team Slipstream after spending the last few years racing mainly in Europe.
Trained by Santa Rosa’s Team Swift Junior Cycling Development Program, Cozza prepared for the Tour of California race by training on roadways in southern Sonoma County.
