Penngrove couple faces prison time in child-abuse case

<p>A Penngrove couple pleaded no contest Thursday to felony child abuse of their then 2-month-old child, who was discovered earlier this year with multiple broken bones throughout her body.</p><p>Jesus Colula, 26, and Lyndsay Colula, 21, each face up to 12 years in prison at their Sept. 27 sentencing. The father is also expected to be deported.</p><p>They were arrested June 6 after bringing the child into a local clinic for a well-baby checkup. The injuries — including a broken limb, fractures and bruises — were determined to have occurred up to a month earlier.</p><p>Until then, the parents had not brought the baby in for treatment, prosecutors said.</p><p>Authorities have declined to say how they believe the injuries occurred.</p><p>Jesus Colula's lawyer, Rebecca Linkous, said Thursday they were not intentionally inflicted.</p><p>She said the Colulas have surrendered their parental rights.</p><p>All rights reserved.
