The City Council voted unanimously to move forward with the Denman Reach flood project Monday night. The project is being funded by two grants totaling more than $1.8 million.
Now that the council has approved the project, city staff will finish acquisition of 13 acres of vacant land along the east side of the river at the north end of town, conclude environmental reviews and obtain project approval. They will also solicit input from neighbors and local interest groups.
Project plans include constructing 1300 linear feet of a flood terrace designed to increase the carrying capacity of the river.
Should the project move ahead on schedule, staff hopes to complete restoration by the end of 2014.
