Successful breast cancer awareness fundraising this month will allow the Petaluma Health Center to provide more free or reduced-cost mammograms this winter.
About $8,500 from Barrels for the Cure, an event by Keller Williams Real Estate office in Santa Rosa and the Sebastopol Wranglers, went to the center’s mammogram fund.
Petaluma’s St. Vincent High School football players and the Sonoma State University women’s basketball team are also raising money this month.
Last year, the groups raised about $800 for the fund, which helps to pay for mammograms for patients who can’t afford them, said Karen Page, the center’s women’s health care coordinator.
October is breast cancer awareness month.
As part of the program, on Nov. 1 and Dec. 4, the St. Joseph’s Medical Center mammography bus will be in Petaluma offering tests with a doctor’s referral.
“It’s really encouraging because patients are getting diagnosed and receiving treatment sooner,” she said.
For an appointment, patients can call 866-430-8222.
