The third time was anything but a charm for St. Vincent High School’s Lady Mustangs who were beaten in the North Coast Section Division 3 soccer semifinals by Sonoma Academy, 5-1.
The two rivals had met twice previously, splitting their North Central League II games.
St. Vincent got off to a good start, scoring early on a Lauren Kulasingam goal off an assist from Rebecca Dodele.
But the rest of the first half belonged exclusively to the Lady Coyotes, who got two goals by Savannah Stoughton and Lucy Donaldson and one from Chloe Colbert before the whistle sounded.
St. Vincent tightened its defense in the second half.
It came too late to keep the Lady Mustangs from being eliminated.
St. Vincent finished with a 14-4 record.
Sonoma Academy lost to unbeaten Middletown, 2-0, in the championship game to finish 17-4 for the season. Middletown, a 3-1 winner over Cloverdale in its semifinal game, finished 21-0-1.
Maria Carrillo also completed an unbeaten season, defeating Montgomery, 3-1, in the finals of the Division 1 Tournament. Montgomery blanked Rancho Cotate, 1-0, in the semifinals, while Maria Carrillo defeated Analy, 18-0. Maria Carrillo was 19-0 for the season.
