Adobe House veterans ride in style

<p>Five veterans from the Adobe House Assisted Living Center, which cares for patients with dementia, were able to participate in the Nov. 11 North Bay Veterans Day Parade in style thanks to the help of community members. </p><p>The World War II veterans dressed in red, white and blue and sparkling bowties, got to ride in a limousine courtesy of Lance Roberts, a Petaluma resident.</p><p>“The gentlemen were so excited,” said Jamie Gralund, community relations manager at Adobe House, describing the event as a rare chance for the residents to get out into the community. “In a dementia care community you never know when you will reach a resident who will be cognitive in 'the moment,'” she said, adding that the parade definitely sparked the men's memories and allowed them to enjoy the day. </p><p>“The parade brought a couple of our gentlemen to tears,” she said. “One of them actually slowed down the procession. He was so excited he insisted on walking with the ladies who were escorting our sign.”</p>
