A Novato teen who crashed a car and injured his five passengers, reportedly after drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana, was arrested early Tuesday morning on three felony offenses and taken to Marin County Juvenile Hall, the CHP said.
One female passenger, 17, suffered major injuries in the 12:30 a.m. crash, including a broken jaw, dislodged teeth and lacerations to her mouth, authorities said.
The others, also 17, had minor injuries, the CHP said.
CHP Officer Eric Hohmeister said the six teens had been in Nicasio and were returning to Novato, where all reside, when the driver missed a T-intersection on Sutro Avenue at Vineyard Road.
Authorities said his 2007 Mitsubishi Endeavor SUV was traveling at speeds approaching 80 mph when it drove off the road, struck a fire hydrant, a tree and a ditch before finally coming to a rest.
The driver had back pain but was cleared at a local hospital before he was taken to juvenile hall and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, causing bodily harm; driving with a blood-alcohol level above 0.08, causing bodily harm; and reckless driving, causing injury, all felonies, the CHP said.
