Update: Rural Petaluma home destroyed by fire

<p>Firefighters and a hazardous materials team continued working Tuesday morning at the rural Petaluma remains of a destroyed house, which burned during the night.</p><p>Cal Fire and Petaluma fire engines arrived first, at 3:50 a.m., to the home tucked away down a long, narrow and very muddy lane. Stadler Lane is off of Eastman Lane.</p><p>Twelve fire agencies responded to the fire, which was in the Wilmar fire district. Other agencies included Rancho Adobe, Schell-Vista and San Antonio.</p><p>The home apparently wasn't occupied, but was full of property. The yard around the 1,600-square-foot home was covered with items including 12 vehicles, a boat and camper.</p><p>Arriving firefighters found the home engulfed in flames, said Bob Borges, captain for Sonoma County fire.</p><p>The fire was kept from spreading to nearby homes but the house was too far gone to save, said Borges.</p><p>No one was living in the home at the time, although whether someone might have been inside remained unknown.</p><p>Crews still needed to go through the site and remove debris. Investigators also were attempting to determine what sparked the blaze.</p><p>A hazardous materials crew was called out Tuesday due to the numerous containers found in the aftermath, which had been filled with unknown materials.</p><p>The house was a total loss, said Borges.</p>
