A wrecked motorcycle and an SUV were under inspection by the CHP Monday as part of the investigation into a fatal crash Sunday afternoon on Valley Ford Road.
Rider Michael Kolb, 48, of Novato died at the scene.
He and his wife, Martha Kolb, 51, had been riding on the rural west county road at about 3:20 p.m. when their 2008 Harley and an SUV collided, according to initial CHP reports.
Driver Cynthia Callahan, 77, was pulling onto Valley Ford Road from her driveway, near Carmody Road, when the collision occurred.
Her Nissan Rogue SUV turned left into the path of the motorcycle, said the CHP.
Martha Kolb, who was a passenger on the bike, was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where she remained Monday in critical condition.
Callahan complained of pain but was not taken to a hospital, according to the CHP.
As well as the mechanics of the vehicles involved, speed and other factors remained to be determined, said CHP Sgt. John Evans.
Alcohol was not considered a factor in the collision.
Because the crash resulted in a death the CHP investigation will be extensive prior to determining whether to ask the District Attorney's Office to file any charges, said Evans.
The crash occurred near the rural community of Bloomfield, west of Cotati.
