Santa Rosa police Monday were attempting to determine who crashed and then abandoned a pickup that landed on its roof on Highway 12 early Sunday.

The 1 a.m. crash near Brush Creek Road scattered car debris for about 50 yards.

The driver of the 1996 black Toyota Tacoma had struck a tree, causing the pickup to flip and land in a lane, reported Santa Rosa traffic Sgt. Rich Celli.

The driver then fled.

One minute later a 2010 Chrysler sedan full of people came upon the overturned truck. The driver told police she didn't have time to avoid hitting the pickup, but no one was injured and she still was able to drive the sedan, Celli said.

Officers Monday were trying to determine if the pickup's owner was the driver.
