St. Vincent girls record first win

The St. Vincent High School softball team scored three runs in the eighth inning to defeat Middletown, 9-6, Thursday evening for its first win of the season.
Playing at Middletown, St. Vincent scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning for a 6-5 lead, but Middletown came back with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, forcing overtime.
St. Vincent’s Lady Mustangs continued their attack in the top of the eighth and relief pitcher Hannah Sarlatte made the runs stand good. Sarlatte received the pitching win with 1 1/3 innings in relief of starting pitcher Hayley Olson.
Sarlatte also led an 11-hit St. Vincent batting attack with three hits. Ursyla Baumgarten and Hannah Upton each had two hits, with both also scoring two runs and knocking in two. Rainey Henry, Upton and Olson all doubled for St. Vincent.
The win was the first for the Lady Mustangs have six losses to larger schools.
