Two men were arrested in downtown Petaluma on Thursday morning following a police chase after one of the men was reportedly seen carrying a handgun in his waistband, Petaluma police said.
At 11:10 a.m., Petaluma Police were told the men were walking into a store in Golden Eagle Shopping Center, according to a news release put out by the department.
Officers spotted the suspects at Water Street and Petaluma Boulevard, but when a sergeant ordered them at gunpoint to stop, they both fled, and police chased them on foot, officials said.
The suspects split up, but Shane DeWalt, 23, of Petaluma was arrested immediately on suspicion of resisting arrest and an outstanding felony no-bail burglary warrant. The other suspect, a 17-year-old juvenile whose name was not released, was arrested 15 minutes later on suspicion of resisting arrest and for nine outstanding warrants, officials said.
A police dog then helped officers search the area for a handgun, but it was not found, police said. Anyone finding the gun should call the police immediately at 778-4372 and avoid handling the firearm, police said.
