Motorists in Petaluma will face delays next week around Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit commuter rail tracks as crews extend their work south from Santa Rosa.

The right southbound lane of Lakeville Street between East D and East Washington streets will be closed Monday through Friday for track construction.

The East D Street rail crossing, meanwhile, will be closed from 6 a.m. on Monday through 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 5. SMART will offer temporary access to Hopper/Lakeville Street businesses on a temporary road from eastbound D Street.

The projects are part of the effort to establish commuter rail service from Santa Rosa to San Rafael. Trains are expected to start as early as 2015.

For information on this and other SMART projects, call the toll-free SMART construction hotline at (855) 312-7444 or visit www.sonomamarintrain.org.
