All aboard for food, drink and a NASCAR race.
In June, for the first time, race fans in the state capital will be able to hop a train that will deliver them to the entrance of Sonoma Raceway for the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
Raceway operators have wanted to add train service for years, said Steve Page, president and general manager of the track. The plan came together this year after upgrades to the tracks and approvals from several railroad and regulatory agencies.
On Thursday, race officials announced a partnership with the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority to offer an express train that will bring fans from the Sacramento area to the raceway (http://www.racesonoma.com) on June 23.
The NASCAR Express will depart from Sacramento, stop in Davis and Suisun City and cross Napa and Sonoma counties' wine country scenery before dropping passengers at the raceway's main entrance.
NASCAR Express passengers can buy a $199 ticket that includes train fare, a grandstand seat to the race, VIP entry, on-track pre-race ceremonies and a commemorative T-shirt.
