James Beard Foundation announces 2013 awards

The James Beard Foundation has announced its 2013 awards, with Merry Edwards of Merry Edwards Winery in Sebastopol winning the coveted award for Outstanding Wine, Beer or Spirits Professional.

Best Chef in the West, another top award, went to Christopher Kostow of The Restaurant at Meadowood in St. Helena.

Best New Restaurant in the nation went to State Bird Provisions in San Francisco, and Danny Bowien of Mission Chinese Food in San Francisco won Rising Star Chef of the Year.

San Francisco Chef and Restaurateur Michael Mina was inducted into the James Beard Who's Who of Food & Beverage in America, and San Francisco Chef and Restaurateur Cecilia Chiang won a Lifetime Achievement Award.
