A Sacramento-area man was arrested at gunpoint Tuesday night when he was stopped in a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier in the day in Petaluma, Petaluma police said.
The suspect, Carmichael resident Thomas Newcomb, 23, also had two outstanding warrants from Mariposa County when he was pulled over at Payran and East Washington streets around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
Newcomb was the only occupant of the vehicle when a patrol officer recognized it as one reported missing earlier from Martin Circle in Petaluma. Sgt. Andrew Urton said in a media release.
The officer performed a high-risk stop and arrested Newcomb for suspected possession of a stolen vehicle.
Newcomb was booked into the Sonoma County Jail and remained incarcerated Wednesday, with bail of $30,000, jail personnel said.
