Petaluma is down to two Little League All-Star teams after the Petaluma Valley Major League team for 11-12-year-olds lost for the second time in as many games in the Section 1 Tournament in Dixon Monday evening. After receiving a first-round bye, the District 35 champions lost a heartbreaking opening game to Alameda, 9-6, and then were beaten by Vacaville and eliminated Monday, 11-1.
Meanwhile, the Petaluma National 11-year-olds and Petaluma Valley 10-year-olds remain hopeful.
The National Elevens, playing in Mill Valley, started back through the losers' bracket Monday with a 14-1 win over Davis, a team it had beaten in its first section game. The Nationals play again for survival tonight against Sonoma, with the winner advancing to the championship game on Wednesday, but needing two wins over Mill Valley to take the section title and advance to division play.
The Petaluma Valley 10-year-old All Stars won their opening section game in Alameda, 7-4, but then lost on Sunday to Mill Valley, 10-2. The Valley plays again tonight for the right to meet Mill Valley in the championship game Wednesday, but needing two wins for the section title.
